Referendum — opinions beyond numbers

Summary/Abstract: Any referendum (including that for adopting the new revised Constitution), viewed as a political act, is interesting in the first place under a quantitative aspect – namely, the percentage of those who agree or not with that resolution under scrutiny. As a communicational act, though, any explanatory effort regarding the citizen’s elective behaviour, the process of shaping his vote intention or, more general, any opinion on the referendum gains its scientific legitimacy, only within this communicational perspective. So that, in finding out, as announced in the title, the opinions behind facts and numbers, we placed ourselves within this communicational perspective opened by the reception studies, we used quantitative research tools – the focus group. Our target has been the referendum and its public information campaign. What resulted was a relevant X-ray of a reality – even if we took into consideration only a well-established target of the population
