Summary/Abstract: Starting from a specific interest - the study of media coverage of the European integration - I fulfilled a research in the context of Romanian referendum for the Constitution change, which was held in 18-19 October 2003, aiming a range of extended objectives such as to find out the intensely media covered subjects in this context, to reveal the journalists attitudes toward the event or to make some comparisons between the major national newspapers in Romania. Using the content analysis, I studied the media coverage of the referendum in four Romanian newspapers, namely Adevarul, Romania Liberă, Evenimentul Zilei and Ziua. The nine analyzed items confirmed on a large extent the starting hypotheses of the research and revealed neither the preponderance of media coverage of civic or legislative significance of the referendum, nor at least the „European” significance, but especially the political and electoral importance of the event.
