Summary/Abstract: The aim of my thesis is to analyze the role of president of the Czech republic in czech political system. I have tried to mention historical progress of this function and its place in Constitution of ČSR from 1920, in which the strength of president`s position was influenced by T. G. Masaryk. I have also analyzed current role of the head of state of the Czech republic and his powers, which are guaranteed to him by Constitution of Czech republic. In the first part of my thesis I attend through opinions of several specialists to problematic question of application of direct vote of the head of state. The major section of my thesis is composed by view of president`s possibilities to influence the enactment. It means right of veto, problems coupled with its functioning and possibilities to make it more effective, but also right to submit proposal to constitutional court to cancel the law or the part of law. All attempts of veto submitted by Václav Havel are quoted in this part of my thesis also with president`s reasoning.
