Iran’s Ballistic Missile Ambitions, Capabilities and Threat: An Overview of Available Information and Estimates

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to review a collection of published information to date and various estimates on Iran’s ballistic missile arsenal. The author will use available literature, documents and other sources. The overview starts with an analysis of the role of ballistic missiles in the military strategy of Iran and the organisation of its arsenal. Then, the focus is put on Iran’s progress in liquidand solid-propellant missiles. Separate paragraphs are dedicated to ties between the ballistic missile arsenal of Iran and its WMD programme, as well as the scientific, logistical and industrial bases. The article ends with additional information about the partnership between Iran and other countries in the proliferation of ballistic missile technologies and weapons and offers a main conclusion about the missile threat emanating from Iran.
