Summary/Abstract: This article proposes to study the evolution and the economic macro functions of the informal sector through its relations with the labour market. The assumption which is made is that these relations are determining the dysfunctions of the labour market and the evolution of unemployment. The central question is then the capacity of job creation of the informal sector, the nature of these jobs and the methods of access to these jobs. In response to the regulation function of the informal sector, and in the current context favourable to the role of institutions on the growth, our analysis emphasizes the links with the public policies and the types of support to be recommended. Two axes of actions are used: the role of micro credit as a support to the demand for labour of the informal units and the role of the social capital (social networks) at the level the access to employment.
