Summary/Abstract: The aim of our study is to highlight the role played by the President of the Republic in the states with semi-presidential systems in Center and Eastern Europe (Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania). This first study, intended to analyze the ex-communist states with semi-presidential systems, focuses on describing the role and place of Presidents of Republic within the constitutional framework of the analyzed states, on the electoral proceedings used for their election, as well as on the analysis of the term of office and their role. This scientific research is relevant for the technical literature that covers the constitutional law in Romania and overseas because it presents in a comparative manner data and information on the young democracies in Center and Eastern Europe.
