Spatial directionality in the worldview of the Turkey-Turks

Summary/Abstract: In the article we examine the use of certain modern Turkish lexemes (alt, üst, sag, sol, yan, taraf, ön, arka, asagı, yukarı, üzeri, ileri, geri, dogru, uzak, yakın) employed to characterize relative positions of objects and directions of motion. On the basis of this analysis conclusions are made that the ways of describing the above mentioned parameters are directly connected with the specific features of the Turk’s living space, their nomadic lifestyle which involves directed movement on flat terrain
