Summary/Abstract: The essence of Web 2.0 are both open standards, which were around in cyberspace before but only now revealed their full potential and quite new technologies. Rich Internet Applications are associated with asynchronous communication and syndication enables website content to be available to multiple other sites. Microformats are certain derivatives of XHTML which saturate the web content with semantics and web services facilitate communication among applications independently of an operation system, programming language or location in cyberspace. These, and other technological solutions, such as RDF, RDFS or OWL, clear the way for the next generations of WWW, i.e., the Semantic Web (Web 3.0) and Web Operation Systems (WebOS), referred to as Web 4.0.
