Summary/Abstract: The notion of “history policy” was coined by German historians in the first half of the 19th century. The Germans also blazed the trail for a conscious historical narrative in the service of politics, with the apogee of history falsification having been reached under Hitler. An analysis of the post-1990 developments prompts the question about the objectives of the contemporary German history policy. Its several traits can be distinguished, such as a tendency towards “objectivizing” German crimes (i.e. ignoring cause-and-effect relationships), viewing Ward War II in the light of individual human rights (the question of German victims), and taking a relativist approach to crimes (equating the Holocaust with Stalin’s crimes).
