Summary/Abstract: The theoretical study aims to contribute to the discussion about conceptualization and didactic grasp of intercultural communicative competence, one of the generally defined educational aims, or more precisely to the discussion about aims and content of intercultural education. Firstly, core terms influencing the approach towards the relevant issues are discussed, namely the terms intercultural and multicultural or intercultural competence and intercultural communicative competence. On the basis of the above foundations, selected foreign models of intercultural competence and intercultural communicative competence are presented. It is essential to classify selected models; two typologies are deployed for this purpose, i.e. general typology of competence models as well as typology of intercultural (communicative) competence. Attention is paid to the following types of models: compositional, orientational and developmental. The main aim of the study thus is to systematize the view on models of intercultural communicative competence, which requires a presentation of selected models of foreign origin in the Czech translation. Such study might contribute to the discussion about their application in educational theory and practice, specifically in the context of foreign language teaching and learning.
