Risk assessment – a must in the field of protection of critical infrastructures

Summary/Abstract: In a world more and more dominated by cataclysmic „wildcard” or „black swan” events (such as the nuclear disaster at Fukushima Power Plant in March 2011), the protection of critical infrastructure constitutes an issue of growing strategic importance. This article explores possible solutions for designing and implementing an adequate and efficient risk management strategy for critical infrastructure, pivoting on risk analysis, defined as a complex, structured and collective analytic endeavour.
