Summary/Abstract: The current study is focused on the message presented by the painter Ursu Broina in the nave of the wooden church from Ticu-Colonie, Cluj department. By placing the two portraits of Joseph II next to the heroes of the New Testament and to a few significant events of Christian history, the painter aims at highlighting its attachment to Maria Theresa’s son. This was a feeling shared by most members of the Romanian community from Transylvania at the end of 18th century. The importance of the imperial portraits from Ticu- Colonie lays not only in their patrimony value but also in establishing with higher accuracy the exact period in which the church was painted. Last but not least, the visual combinations conceived by the artist are a proof for the success of transferring theological models into politics over time.
