Summary/Abstract: The paper presented here deals with one peculiar relationship between genres. In the example of the work I.L. Caragiale, the Comic and the Phantastic genres enter into a complementary duality and become closely linked toghcthcr than the usual relationship that exists between comic and tragic . This essay discusses two of the most important works of Caragiale. One is "O scrisoare pierduta" (A Lost Letter) and the other is "La hanul lui Manjoala", (At Manjoala's Inn). Caragiale's comic is very pro-found and existential. The tragic however is common and lacks complexity. That is why a new type of relationship is formed. If one wants to resume the whole argument one can say that the phantastic begins where the comic ends.
