Summary/Abstract: The Caragiale's irony and the public ceremony study tries to present the modernity of the Romanian playwright Ion Luca Caragiale's literary work starting with some principles which define the contemporary spirituality: the irony, the relativism, the absurd . Our research takes into account the connection of the important writer's creation to the artistic research of the last important literary generation stated in the 80's. We also took into consideration a philosophical dimension of the study through the relation of the Caragiale's literary work with the ideas about irony and relativity, as they appear in Richard Rorty's reflections.
