Punctuation in Sentence Structures Containing Modifying Expressions

Summary/Abstract: The subject of the article is punctuation of various modal terms and expressions. Words like obviously, unfortunately, certainly, naturally, by no means (oczywiœcie, niestety, owszem, naturalnie, bynajmniej), which indicate the writer’s attitude towards the expressed content, are labeled as modifying expressions. The article presents statistic data regarding the punctuation usage of particular modifying expressions. As there is no precise rule, the data can be of great importance to the authors of new punctuation rules. They can also provide guidance to all Polish language users.
