Summary/Abstract: The terms economic growth and economic development sometimes are used interchangeably, but there is a fundamental distinction between them. Economic growth refers to a rise in national income, per capita income, and product income. If the production of goods and services in a country rises by whatever means, we can speak of that rise as "economic growth". "Economic development", in addition to a rise of per capita income, implies fundamental changes in the structure of the economy. The intent of this paper is to present the connection and the relationship between the rate of economic growth and accounting of economic growth. Accounting of economic growth analyzes the sources of the growth: capital, labour and technical progress. Each of these factors has important role in reaching the biggest rate of the economic growth. Accounting of the economic growth gives a clear image to macroeconomists and policy makers how to construct and lead the economic development policy. Actually, it gives data about what kind of factors for economic growth has more relevant share in the gained real rate of growth. Finally, this paper includes the results of made analyses of the economic growth sources in the Republic of Macedonia, for the periods: 1993-1999; 1996-2002; 1998-2004; and 2000-2006.
