Summary/Abstract: During the 16th century, there is a radical change in the form of the State. The key feature of the Modern State is the tendency towards centralization of political power, that is, the overcoming of particularisms represented by ecclesiastical and secular institutions. This process produces inevitable conflicts between monarchies, interested in the centralization of power, and traditional classes who risk losing substantial shares of power. Among other cases, this process also affects Spain, and especially its Italian domains, producing several cases of conflict of jurisdiction with the ecclesiastical authorities. Their solution is entrusted to the nuncio in Madrid, whose letters are the bases of this paper.
