Summary/Abstract: This paper offers a comparison of the pragmatic functions of intonational morphemes of English and Croatian within the theoretical framework of the bitonal generative compositional model Pierrehumbert-Hirschberg. It is shown that it is more common for Croatian than for English to use unmarked intonational means as equivalents of their marked correlates.
