Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to review the speeches and arguments made by the highest authorities of the “Yugoslav Muslim Religious Community” (Islamska Verska Zajednica), between 1933 and 1992, against magical practices among the Muslims of former Yugoslavia, according to all the texts published on this subject in the official organ of the Community’s Directorate. Discussed are first : the profile of this periodical, its evolution over the three periods (1933-1941, 1941-1945 and 1950-1992); ambiguities concerning magic in Islam and Islamic thought, as well as the origin of the plurality of religious authorities in the Muslim world. Then the biographies of the four authors and a brief analysis of their texts are presented.
