Summary/Abstract: Paper analyzes gastronomic motives in poems of Polish Nobel laureate Wislawa Szymborska as an “universal operator of discourse” (R. Barthes). Its aim is to reveal anthropological reflections in texts, individual and universal story of seeking the world’s sense, connections between nature and human culture. The study concentrate on three main aspects of culinary motives: biological (satisfying man’s basic needs), social (interpersonal relations) and cultural (symbols in history, literature, methaphysics and ethic).
