Summary/Abstract: Based on a lecture given at a conference on the experience of exile which suffered German, Austrian and Czech authors and journalists between 1933 and 1989 under the conditions of both Nazi and Communist dictatorships this article deals with several issues. In which way did the Czechoslovakian authorities and the established relief organizations support the exiled persons? What kind of cooperation between Chech and immigrated authors was developed? What ideological and political clashes and impacts have the democratic forces in the Czechoslovakian republic between 1933 and 1938 influenced? What literary inspirations did the exiled authors gain from the new historical situation? What consequences did Chech writers draw after 1948 resp. 1968 under the condition of Communist attacks against the freedom of writing?
