Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the style of tourist advertising and information of Poland and Austria. It compares the verbal and the visual codes of the Polish and Austrian tourism brochures. The most important difference between both corps of texts is the very emotional communication of the Austrian papers and a very rational communication of the Polish papers. The causes of the discovered differences are discussed there. The differences can influence the translation of the brochures in a good or in a bad way. The fact of the sensitivity to the differences of the text genre in Poland and Austria is the essential feature of the translator. The sensitivity is the result of the awareness of the different conventions of genre.
