Summary/Abstract: The article explores the intertextual and intermedia relations among Ranko Marinkovic's novels "Cyclops" and "Never more" and the Modern Art. For this purpose, the author has compared the iconic motifs found in Marinkovic's criticisms, essays and novels to the iconic motifs that Aleksandar Flaker found in the works of another great Croatian writer, Miroslav Krleza. The comparative analysis of their literary iconologies has proved that Krleza and Marincovic did not have much in common. Krleza's iconic motifs group together with the traditional literary motifs of the Renaissance, Baroque and Impressionism, while Marinkovic's iconic motifs relate to the works of the European and Croatian Modern and Avant-garde painters such as Pablo Picasso, Vilko Gecan, Josip Seissel and Milivoj Uzelac.
