Summary/Abstract: This paper is a critical overview of the negative consequences of speedy liberalization of higher education whose final product is mushrooming of private colleges and universities. The growth of the private sector within the higher education system has resulted in the development of the idea of competition and competitive struggles on the education market. The fact that education has become trading goods as any other is emphasized. This leads to an intentional decrease of knowledge that students receive, due to which the final result of the educational process is receiving a diploma instead of gaining knowledge. The author of this paper tries to point out certain negative consequences of the uncontrolled growth of private institutions of higher education especially for state universities by using a certain amount of sociological sarcasm.
