Summary/Abstract: In the article, through the principles of historical imagology and theory of humor, has been discovered separate formation mechanisms for Latgalian autostereotype using Latgalian anecdotal folklore as a research source. Through the analysis of anecdotal personality system, it was concluded that Latgalian character has tendency to actively interact in ethnical communication, engaging not only as a solely transmitter and receiver but also by taking role of a character. Latgalian personality in the anecdotes reveals through his language features ((self) designation of ethnical group) and comical situations of various levels, which reveals Latgalian character as a protector of cultural values that has formed through centuries and a vindicator of a group behavior. The analysis of comical situations reveals that Latgalian doesn`t develop perception towards the other ethnic groups based on uncompromising allocation one of our own means good and stranger means bad. Instead, he is assessing partner who is involved in the communication by his psychological, social and other behavioral characteristics.
