Summary/Abstract: If there is one thing that Greece’s political leadership does not like, it is sympathy for neighboring Macedonia among high-ranking international officials. For the past two days, the Greek Foreign Ministry and intelligence service have been assessing any possibilities of sympathetic in the latest such interaction. The chronically stalled negotiations between Macedonia and Greece over the former’s constitutional name got fresh attention with the recent visit to Macedonia of the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon and Matthew Nimetz, the UN’s mediator for negotiations between Skopje and Athens. Nimetz had already visited Skopje and Athens earlier this year, on a spring ‘fact-finding’ mission which had few overt results.
