Summary/Abstract: The paper characterises two types of assessment: conformity assessment and evaluative assessment. The evaluative assessment has been systematized, specifying its most important models, which in the form of various contests and promotional programmes have been employed in Poland over the last two decades. Seven examples of evaluative assessment models concerning products and management systems have been discussed in more detail. Differences between the regulations for such models have been identified with regard to the customer approach and the manner of gathering customer opinions on the object being as¬sessed.
