Summary/Abstract: In the era of globalization, feminism is seen as a major event, a factor of unprecedented social and cultural revolution. In this early twenty-first century, the women’s liberation movement seems to be at a crossroads. It has become a global issue, being recognized and institutionalized among the universities, it is part of the courses and of the great debates of society, it becomes the subject of symposia, conferences and research groups. In the 1990s with considerable delay, the Gender Studies are also entering France and in French universities where students are increasingly encouraged to discuss the issue of women and gender, and sexuality. A significant change in mentality is happening. In the twenty-first century the “Gender” was promoted as a “discipline” in France. In a historiographical perspective, I will transcribe the movement in France, its reception, its evolution and its differences with the movement across the Atlantic.
