Summary/Abstract: Within this article we intend to approach the relationship between event and public space, with a particular interest in the following aspects: the eventperceived as significant symbol inside a public space, the event that brings about a “before” and an “after” of the public space, the event that affects public space giving it a name, an identity. Case study: the Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo. Public Place: Plaza de Mayo, Buenos Aires, Argentina. Significance of the public space prior to event: plaza of representation for the Government building, with a pyramid remembering the events of the May Revolution leading to Argentina’s gain of independence in 1816. The actors of the event: the mothers of the disappeared. The event unfolded over a period of several years, starting with individual claims of news of their children by the mothers of the disappeared.
