Summary/Abstract: Spanish novelist, short-story writer, literary critic, journalist, university professor, Emilia Pardo Bazán is best known for bringing Naturalism to Spanish literature, for her detailed descriptions of reality and for her role in feminist literature of her era. Therefore, her work is representative of the styles and concerns of Realism and Naturalism, Feminism and Modernism. She wrote extensively on a wide variety of subjects – from literature, philosophy and theology to science, technology, social issues and feminism – and in many forms: novels, short stories, plays, essays and more than 1500 articles in the Galician newspapers El Progreso, El Heraldo gallego, in the national and international ones as ABC, El Imparcial, La Nación (Argentina). Advocate of education and other opportunities for women, she was appointed Professor of Romance Literature at the University of Madrid (1916-1921).
