Summary/Abstract: At the beginning of the 20th century, the woman’s social status was not too much different from that she used to have one hundred years before: the woman was not an active participant in social life, her role being limited to procreation and handling housework. The 19th century, the century of great changes in Europe and worldwide, opened the new path to woman’s social recognition, which was accomplished step by step, overcoming the resistance of misogyny and male ego, that was under direct attack for the first time. It was only after the second half of the 20th century that the woman’s status was recognized and she became, alongside man, an important factor for social development.
