Summary/Abstract: The paper takes at first a look into Jane Austen’s portraits of a person of such description. In the era of globalization, the European Union is taking a vivid interest in gender issues and they are on its rolling agenda. Not only in the classicized issue of the equal pay, but also in bolder matters such as rules on professionalization of domestic work, negotiations on liberating the women in South of Mediterranean of their traditional role, and pressing for a gender balance in business leadership. The paper draws the portrait of an accomplished young woman as the EU supports in its documents and weighs what is lost when something is gained.
