Summary/Abstract: Undeniably, the main reason behind the unprecedented medical progress of the last century was the discovery and the introduction of new drugs; the field, however, is now facing increasing difficulties. A brief review of the drug design and discovery process is presented together with some success stories as well as problems hampering future developments.
