Summary/Abstract: The antecedents of music therapy lie in the Antiquity, when the doctors tried to cause catharsis or happiness for the patients’ purification. However, doctors play music for their own spiritual recovery. The author examines some communities of amateur musician doctors, like the Music Society of Cluj-Napoca/Kolozsvár and the Hungarian Semmelweis string quartet.
