Summary/Abstract: For different kinds of institutions co-operation with mass media is essential in building their relations with the public. Without functional relationship between PR and media we could not speak about required foreknowledge of public. Any institution or subject is not able to deliver its information to public without help of mass media. On the other hand, mass media would suffer from lacking a huge segment of information which comes from press relations. The relations (media relations) between institution or PR and mass media is based on partnership and co-operation. Any organisation is a sovereign subject, but the independence of the mass media should be also respected. The role of mass media in institutional communication process is mediatory.
