Summary/Abstract: The article intends to provide an analytical assessment of the Romanian foreign policy agenda promoted in the time of the NATO’s Riga Summit (November 2006), an agenda that summarizes the core issues of what we can call Basescu’s grand strategy towards the wider Black Sea Region. All these issues are very sensitive particularly because the pro-active agenda of energy securitization promoted by the Romanian President may collide with the interests of the prostatus- quo regional powers; the sensitivity of the problem involved is maximized because there is no clear consensus at the level euro-atlantic community on the right strategy or which should be the forum for debating primary policy options involving security energy-EU or NATO? More, it seems that this topic revived the fault lines of the past years between new and old Europe. But at the end of the day were the Romanian interests secured?
