State aid for fishing industry companies

Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses implementation guidelines defined in Art. 107-109 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union from the perspective of aid granted by the state to companies operating in the fishing industry. Qualitative analysis of state aid granted to subsidise the particular industry in Member States of the European Union was based on Council Regulation on the European Fisheries Fund, Council Regulation laying down structural measures for fisheries to guide and facilitate the restructuring of the industry within the European Community and Commission Exemption Regulation No 800/2008 declaring certain categories of aid compatible with the common market. Some issues of the state aid granted to the fishing industry were discussed in the context of Government State aid rules for fisheries and aquaculture. The criteria for granting that aid, verifying its objectives as well as measures and amounts approved by the Commission were discussed.
