Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the elements of the competitiveness of the agri-food business. It characterizes different categories of competitive potential. First in the article there is a division on material and immaterial potential. Then it describes instruments which help to achieve the competitive advantage in agribusiness industry and maintain the competitive position of the measured market share or financial situation of a company. The paper shows the ways to strengthen the competitive advantage of food producers. These include first and foremost the formation of quality and safety of products, as well as the adjustment of proenvironmental actions and product range to ever increasing demands of consumers.
