Protection of Rights of National Minorities in the EU Legal System

Summary/Abstract: This paper is devoted to an issue of the protection of the rights of the national minorities in the European Union law. Special attention is paid to the current state of observing the rights of the national minorities in the EU and to the situation after entrance into force the Treaty of Lisbon. There is also a short presentation of the most important acts of the EU law (i.e. especially of the acts of the derived law) concerning the rights of the minorities. Author sums up that there is still much to improve in the EU law in the area of the protection of the rights of the national minorities and that the European Union can inspire its law particularly by the law created in the system of the Council of Europe.
