Summary/Abstract: KAROL IRZYKOWSKI AND THE POSITIVISTS’ QUESTIONS Summary The subject of the article is to recognize the relation between Karol Irzykowski and the Positivism in the former’s texts from the interwar period. In his most important writings Karol Irzykowski i pytania pozytywistów 51 from that time Irzykowski repeats the questions the Positivists asked regarding the philosophy of Utilitarianism, the social engagement program of literature, the problem of the “form” and the “content”, the issue of realism and the conditions to representation. The critic also inquires about the place of cultural project of Polish Positivists in our culture. Having judged negatively many of the literary currents and intellectual attitudes of the Interwar, Irzykowski seems to come back (consciously and unconsciously) to the theory and praxis of Bolesław Prus. The concept of “klerkizm”, which can be related to the anthropology of maturity of Prus, also has Positivist roots. Trans. M. Bucholc
