Narratives of a Memorable Week of Evangelization in Sâncraiu

Summary/Abstract: The memory depends on groups, the community preserves the image of the past according to the interpretative structure and relational system, as it is shown in the analysis of four narratives about the same event. A week of Evangelization in 1998 divided the Reformed community of Kalotaszentkirály: a part of the community approved what the invited minister said, the other part was outraged. Both opinions initiated certain processes that created tension. Today the confl ict is latent, thematized in some occasions, but the applied narrative strategies show, what lies in the background. Beneath the difference of opinions can be noticed, how the narratives reconstruct the same event, with what kind of interpretations, evaluations, messages, style of speech, gestures, emotions, secondary approaches, using some words with another meaning, some even ambiguous.
