Summary/Abstract: The article is concentrated on the jazz elements in the Czech poetry of the 20th century. In introduction, the author deals with jazz inspiration in the Czech literary history from the 1920s to the present time. After that he notices the basic elements of jazz music (syncopated rhythm, improvisation, blue tuning) which inspired Czech poets. He analyses these elements in certain poet texts, he searches for their imitations, equivalents in poetry. It appears that the syncope is associated with the jamb verse in poetry and the improvisation has a connection with the principle of repetition and variation. The blue tuning is imitated on the principle of the contrast which points to different moods. At the close of the paper the author states his belief that imitation of the jazz elements in poetry has experimental character. Jazz inspiration brought an intensive impulse to the Czech literature of the 20th century.
