Summary/Abstract: The Prague Theatre of Music was established in 1949 and soon became a remarkable and representative institution of the Czechoslovak Socialistic Republic. Its repertoire was encouraged by the biggest label Gramofonové závody/Gramophone Concern (later Supraphon) and by numerous other theatres being quickly founded all over the republic and the up to date technical equipment. Programmes of the theatre which was at the beginnings led by Jaroslav Šeda were based on experimental combination of recorded sound and live production. Even though this line never attempted to create a full-value dramatic performance and strongly retained its interpretation aimed on popularization of music, it inspired many chamber or multimedia enterprises such as Laterna magica, Lyra Pragensis or Viola which still fascinate domestic and international public.
