ORIGINALITY IN THE THEORY OF ART: A PHILOSOPHICAL PROBLEM OF THE ARTISTIC FORGERY

Summary/Abstract: The first part of the paper presents the semantic analysis of the concept of originality in our natural language. Then author offers the explication of the ways how the theories of art – or more precisely the theories of artistic value – reflect the fact that originality is a desirable and an estimated phenomenon in the world of art. The third part of the paper is devoted to the explanation of the philosophical problem of art forgery. This explanation is accompanied by the polemic with the theories of artistic value, which conceived originality as a key to the solution of the problem of forgery.
