Summary/Abstract: Of the three extant Ruso-Byzantine treaties (911, 944, and 971) only that of 944, the longest and by far the most important for historical reconstructions, lacks precise dating. The article argues that the treatyís conspicuous reference to the church of St. Elijah where the group of baptized Rusí endorsed the treaty might suggest that the treaty was concluded during the feast of St. Elijah, which yields the precise dating of the charter: July 20, 944.
