Summary/Abstract: Artists were unshackled by the enormous changes of 20 years ago, but that didn’t necessarily mean they thrived. Throughout this month, Transitions will present a series of articles marking the anniversary of the fall of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia. As we look at how life has changed – or stayed the same – over the past 20 years, TOL correspondents in Croatia, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine asked people in various professions to describe their working life today compared with conditions before 1991. This collection of interviews with artists is the first in the series that resulted.
