STRESS IN ADOPTED CHILDREN – FACTORS AND COPING STRATEGIES

Summary/Abstract: Till recently the public attitudes towards adoption in Bulgaria and all over the world were quite positive. Adoption is seen through the myth of “salvation” for all the parties participating in the adoption triad. The latest researches in the ( eld of adoption focus on the reasons why this “salvation” often turns out to be problematic. The task of the current article is to present the experience of stress and the losses in the life of the adopted children. In the articles are described some factors that in) uence on the experience of stress, such as the age of the child, the parent-child interactions, the different ways in which the adopted children become aware of their adoption and how they integrate it in their lives. The article also puts accents on the different strategies for coping with the stress of adoption.
