Summary/Abstract: In the first issue of Pedagogical Quarterly in 2010 (pp. 155–164) Mirosław S. Szymański published an article Twelve Polish-German pedagogic conferences in the years 1983–2009, which was an attempt to compare long-term scientific contacts among educators, both Polish and German, from the Polish point of view. Wolfgang Mitter’s text is an attempt to create a similar comparison – but from the German point of view, and also takes into account the thirteenth conference, which took place in September 2011 in Köpenick near Berlin. The author recalls that so far the following conferences have taken place: 1. Methodological issues in comparative education – Warsaw 1983; 2. Schools and the prospects of our culture – Rastede near Oldenburg 1985; 3. Growing up under the influence of the school, family and the society – Antonin near Poznań 1987; 4. Orientation problems of young people in the transition from school to work and Results and perspectives of the activity of the Expert Committee for National Education – Lüneburg 1990; 5. Teacher training in Poland and Germany – Ahrensfelde near Postdam 1992; 6. School and education in transition – Białowieża 1994; 7. Transformation in education and European perspectives – Meissen 1997; 8. Ten years later. Teaching and education in Germany and Poland – a comparative 9. The teacher and teacher training – changes and challenges – Wandgräben near Magdeburg 2002; 10. Civic education, (trans-)national values and historical awareness – Leipzig 2006; 12. Bildungspolitik und Bildungsforschung in Deutschland und in Polen in den letzten Jahren (Educational Policy and Research in Germany and in Poland in recent years) – Guzianka near Ruciane-Nida 2009; 13. Transitions to and out of university and to the labour market: opportunities and problems during the period of structural reforms of higher education in Germany and Poland – Berlin-Müggelsee 2011. “Recalls” is a very accurate word, as the author purposefully decides not to present all the conferences in detail, but he points to their six – as he puts it – “fundamental aspects”. First, these conferences provide a picture of developmental tendencies in education and educational research in the two countries in the last 30 years. Second, they are interdisciplinary, they attract the interest of non-comparatists and also appeal to an increasing number of participants. Third, the organizers of these conferences have always taken care of both continuity and change, evolution and identity. Fourth, without the mediation of translators, the conferences have always contributed to the exchange of knowledge in the field of education and educational research between the two countries. Fifth, the conference series has continued despite the turbulent historical events. Sixth and last, they have made a significant contributio
