Summary/Abstract: "From historical point of view Moldova was always a border-periphery. Moldova’s geographical position before 1882 placed on the border between the two big Empires Ottoman and Russia contributed actually to the first separation of the territory from Romania. Moldova’s periphery status is reaffirmed after the Second World War when it was separated again from Romania and became the border line between the Soviet Union and Romania. Thirdly, Moldova’s periphery status is reinforced after the end of the Cold War by Romania’s accession to NATO, when Moldova was labelled as border line between the West and post-Soviet space."
