The article outlines the roots and background of this belief, viewing the behaviour of both animals and their habits in co-existence with humans. This kind of differentiation between cat and dog is rather a reflection of people's accustomed behaviour and expectations derived from the animal's behaviour - both animals' mouths contain both pathogenic micro-organisms and healing substances.
